Tap
Tap Dance is a form of Percussive dance characterised by using the sound of tap shoes, specially designed with metal toe and hell taps, hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. The goal in tap dancing is to produce clear, clean sounds, with various levels of tone. Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, it is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. Its history can be traced to the clog dances of the mill towns of the North of England and the American style that grew up in the deep south alongside jazz music.
By following the ISTD Tap examination syllabus, and offering the graded Tap dance exams there is a clear structure to measure pupil’s progress.
We offer Tap classes to children from Age 7 upwards and an Adult Tap class.
Our Adult Tap class is “just for fun” for anyone who would like to join in whether and absolute beginner or a proficient tapper.
